Is NBC Putting '30 Rock' In Danger? | HuffPost TV
“30 Rock” hit new series LOWS in the ratings last night. It seems not even Liz Lemon is a match for “American Idol” and “The Big Bang Theory.” Yes, “30 Rock” got lower ratings than “Community.”
What do you think NBC should do with its 8 p.m. on Thursdays timeslot?
I don’t know if there’s anything they can do. The competition is monstrous and not going away. Counter-programming with quality, higher-end reaching shows would be a traditional tactic, but that’s what they’re already doing.
- stop juggling the lineups. it’s hard enough to breed viewer loyalty these days, but NO ONE is going to stick to a night of your programming if shows are being moved from night to night, replaced mid-season, or having their whereabouts poorly advertised (christ, they’re already moving Rock Center to the 9pm wednesday slot, a time that they JUST replaced the shows with when they benched Community and moved Whitney)
- LISTEN TO VIEWERS. how hard is this? Was there an uproar when Whitney got moved? NO. Were people up in arms when they changed the name of “Are You There Chelsea?” NO. Was the internet up in arms AND people publicly assembled when Community got benched? DOY.
- This piece is partial proof that basically everyone in the world will acknowledge and admit that thursday night, especially at 8pm (and now later thanks to American Idol) is a competitive time slot to say the least. It blew my mind that they wondered why Community and any other show struggled when they insisted on putting it up against the top rated comedy on television in the Big Bang Theory. How about taking The Office (a show I actually still enjoy for the most part, but a lot of people have given up on [see #2]) and move that to 8pm, instead of putting fledgling (but worthy) shows there and giving them less of a chance to get new eyeballs.

edit: the only reason i like to rant about this is because of the major networks, NBC (for my money) consistently makes the best programming, boneheaded decisions aside. Friday Night Lights, Community, Parks & Rec, The Office, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Conan (before the katzenberg mess), etc.
